Los Angeles Soup - June 14 2017

Our sixth serving of soup with a side of L.A. GOAL

Los Angeles Soup partnered with L.A. Goal for our sixth community dinner filled with delicious soup and art created by L.A. GOAL members. Since it's genesis in 1969, L.A. GOAL has empowered adults with developmental disabilities to live healthy, productive, independent lives.

Los Angeles Soup is a huge community effort and it is only made possible by our generous community partners. Thank you to everyone who came and contributed to the greatness that is Soup.

Projects that presented:

Black Nectar

BlackNectar is a project that helps people on Food Stamps find places to eat and check their balance all from their smartphones.

In LA County alone, there are over 1 million people on Food Stamps (known as EBT), and for many of the homeless, it is their only lifeline. We will work to reach out to the community and expand our reach.

The Academy Project

The Academy Project prepares LA foster youth to succeed in high school and beyond, through an innovative summer camp & after school program, with a guaranteed spot in a stable & supportive community.

Camp Xavier, a 2 week summer camp that kicks off a youth's participation with TAP, is delivered in part by UCLA Unicamp and through their generosity we have brought down the cost to only $300 per camper. Camp has proven truly transformational for our youth. We will be able to send 2 youth to Camp Xavier with the generous grant from LA Soup! Beyond this, we will have the opportunity to get the word out about the work TAP is doing, expanding our community and our ability to help foster youth

The What's in Your Heart Project

Expression is everything. Giving someone in need the tools and permission to express themselves provides a valuable platform for connection and communication. Artist Jennifer Korsen knows this very well and takes this knowledge with her to reach out to groups in the community who would benefit from the experience the most. Using a template of her signature heart she invites others to create and join an ongoing movement to bring people together through art.

For every $300 raised, I will put together a workshop or 8x8 ft mural to be donated to a community organization. I'm open to taking suggestions for organizations, or am happy to work with some that I have at the past. This money will allow me to dedicate the time, transportation, and supplies to the project and continue the volunteer work I have been doing while expanding the impact of the project to new groups.

Cakes for Kids

For Goodness Cakes matches volunteers to bake birthday cakes for disadvantaged youth and young adults.

Everyone deserves to be celebrated - especially the ones who were once forgotten. Grant money would provide funding to on board more volunteers, and keep the task calendar running for volunteers to sign up for baking opportunities.<!--td {border: 1px solid #ccc;}br {mso-data-placement:same-cell;}-->
